Red Cross Donations Down

By Paul Johnson

Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) - The American Red Cross says blood donations are down substantially and if they don't pick up soon an "emergency situation" could occur.
The organization says the looming blood shortage can be blamed in part on the calendar...
Since July fourth fell on a Friday it cut the number of blood drives they could schedule as volunteers went on vacation.
The red cross reminds donors not only do they need blood..
They need platelets which allow blood to clot and are often needed by cancer patients, bone marrow recipients and burn victims.
