Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) Wednesday is Registered Dietitian Day.

In honor of the occasion, Governor 'Butch' Otter signed a proclamation recognizing the event in Idaho.

Registered Dietitian Day recognizes them as advocates for advancing the nutritional status of people around the world. With more than 73,000 members, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics created the event.

"The meaning surrounding this day is to really increase awareness. Increase awareness that registered dietitians live in our communities. There's about 50 registered dietitians, probably over 50 that live in the Magic Valley and we've have really here to help patients, consumers family members, live healthier lives," adds Dr. RoseAnna Holliday, Idaho President of the Academy.

She says registered dietitians translate science into practical application.

Dr. Holliday teaches at the College of Southern Idaho.
