Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) A local lawmaker is speaking out about his recent memoir.

State Representative Stephen Hartgen wrote "Journey West: A Memoir of Journalism and Politics."

The book begins in Maine where the Republican grew up, and continues in Twin Falls, Idaho where he lives now.

Hartgen is a retired media executive who has been a Gem State lawmaker since 2008. He represents House Seat 24.

He believes everyone should write a memoir.

"Take good notes of your life, keep a record, write in a journal, talk about yourself to yourself because you’re your most important audience in a sense. So, a memoir is your life in your own words," said State Rep. Stephen Hartgen.

Journey West was released on paperback in February.

Rep. Hartgen is signing copies of his book Saturday August 16th at Barnes and Noble in Twin Falls from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

It's also available on Amazon and through the publisher Ridenbaugh Press.
