Featherville, Idaho (KMVT-TV) - Officials with the Trinity Ridge Fire say they will allow residents of Featherville and Pine to return to check their property Tuesday and retrieve personal items. Pine residents will be allowed in the area from 9:00 A.M to 7:00 P.M on Tuesday, August 28, 2012. Featherville residents will have an opportunity to check their residences from 10:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. or 12:00 P.M. to 1:30 P.M. Featherville residents wishing to check their homes are to meet at the Elk Flats Campground on Pine-Featherville Rd by 10:00 OR 12:00 to be escorted to Featherville. They will be allowed to proceed to their property and spend up to 1 and a half hours to check homes and gather any personal items they may have not been able to during the initial evacuation. Although fire crews have saved all the homes and structures in Featherville, significant smoke and risks prevent residents from returning to their homes for now, unified command are monitoring conditions to allow that to happen as soon as possible.
This opportunity is afforded to residents of the area for the sole purpose of checking the safety and security of their property and possessions. All recreation areas are still closed and no one will be allowed to enter the area towing RVs or ATVs, etc. Checkpoints are still in place and all residents must show ID and proof of residence.
There will be a community meeting tomorrow, August 28th, at the Pine Senior Center at 10:30 a.m. for residents of Featherville and Pine for an update on the fire and to answer questions. After tomorrow, the unified incident command will continue to assess fire risks and allow access as conditions warrant with the goal of getting people back into their homes and a normal life as soon as safely possible.
Public and firefighter safety is the first priority. Smoke may be heavy at times, and emergency vehicles will be traveling in both directions.
