Ride Sun Valley Festival Underway In The Wood River Valley
Hailey, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) Celebrating the mountain biking culture in the Wood River Valley is what the Ride Sun Valley Bike Festival is all about.
"We have so much great mountain biking that just to create a festival that drew attention to that was our whole goal," explains Greg Randolph, Ride Sun Valley.
In the four years since the bike festival has been underway, the event seems to be growing every year, even attracting sponsorship on a national level.
"The Smith Optics Ride Sun Valley Bike Festival is basically a celebration of life on two wheels. Bikers are very passionate and a rowdy bunch it seems in this area, especially," says Amy David, Mountain Sports International.
The events kicked off on Thursday night with the Sheeptown Drag Race in Hailey.
Friday night, the fun takes over the City of Ketchum.
"There is actually going to be an opening night party presented by Play Hard- Give Back, which is a non-profit in the area. There is going to be four different concerts and an after party after that. So you don't want to miss that," David explains.
Along with a beer garden and a bike expo, there is a little something for everyone of all ages to enjoy.
And, as Greg Randolph says, when it comes down to it, a bike festival for the Wood River Valley was really a no brainer.
"This is such a great mountain bike community and such a great mountain bike destination... we have such great riding. And to sort of do something to draw attention to that... I think it’s good for all of us. It reminds us of how good the mountain biking is or just the outdoor community in general. We have such a great resource... we didn't have to go out and invent something; we just needed to start talking about it," he says.
As the saying goes, I came for the winter and I’m staying for the summer.
And it's festivals like Ride Sun Valley that make this world class skiing destination... an up and coming hot spot for anything and everything outdoors all year round.
