Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) The Saint Luke’s Health Care System includes seven hospitals and multiple clinics across Idaho and eastern Oregon.

They give thousands of patients quality service, from inpatient services to follow ups.

Recently, the Saint Luke’s Health Care System received the nation's top honor in overall health care systems.

The Truven Health 15 Top Health Systems identifies the 15 best health systems in the nation.

The Saint Luke's Health System is one of the nation's best.

"It's one thing to hit a mark, and it's another thing to sustain the mark repetitively. And I think this is validation for the health system... we are progressing and making improvements and getting closer to that goal of being a national leader in quality and safety," explains Bart Hill, VP-CQO, Saint Luke’s Health Care System.

The Truven Health Top 15 award is based on an evaluation of key performances and safety measures.

It includes a few areas, such as mortality, medical complications, patient safety, and average length of stay.

One of the shining gems of the Saint Luke's Health System is the Stroke and Sepsis Program.

"For two years, we built up to join commission certification as a primary stroke center... and that is one of the main reasons we were recognized in this Truven health care award. We showed rapid improvement in all of these care measures for patients over a short period of time," says Stephanie Shawver, RN, Stroke and Sepsis Coordinator.

Doctor Trevor Satterfield works in the Family Medical Clinic at Saint Luke's Magic Valley.

The feeling he gets from making the list is a satisfaction of a job well done.

"There is a sense of pride to be recognized for having made some improvement and it continues I think... to build that desire to improve even more," he explains.

For Dr. Satterfield and the rest of the Saint Luke's Health Care system, this is just the beginning.

"This isn't where we've set the goal. We feel like we can improve. I think there are other areas where we can focus our attention and even deliver even higher quality care,” Satterfield points out.
