Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) Christmas may be over... But shoppers are hitting retail stores hard today.

Consumers were lined up bright and early to return gifts and take advantage of big sales.

Some stores like Wal-Mart and Kohl's opened their doors as early as 5 a.m. to anxious shoppers just hours after Christmas.

Retailers like amazon.com, Old Navy and Saks Fifth Avenue are amping up their 'day after Christmas' sales in hopes of cashing in on your holiday cheer.

The week after Christmas can account for as much as 15% of what retailers see throughout the entire holiday season.

Experts say the 26th is also a big day for gift card purchases... With Target customers cashing in their stocking stuffers the most today.

The owner of The Brass Monkey, Kindsey Ringenberg, says she is expecting customer returns all day.

“The day after Christmas is the biggest return day in the retail world, so we expect a lot of returns, a lot of people not getting the right sizes, not maybe what they want, or it doesn't fit,” she explains.

Kiplinger's Personal Finance also reminds returning shoppers to bring their state-issued ID to the store.

A retailer may ask for it, especially if you don't have the receipt.
