Shoshone Falls Opens For The Season

Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) This weekend kicks off the official 2014 opening of Shoshone Falls to the public.

Even though the park is open all year round, the City of Twin Falls charges a fee to visitors during the warmer months.

Part of the Idaho Power license, starting April 1st, Idaho Power is required to push at least 300 CFS over Shoshone Falls and that's the case through Labor Day.

Despite the rain today, 175 vehicles made their way through the gate to check out the display.

"This year the flows at Shoshone Falls should be an average year, similar to what we had last year, nothing great, the snow pack has helped, what we had lately, the rain and the snow, but I really don't think we'll have a big rush in 2006, 2009 and 2011, where we had the big flows. I hope I'm wrong on that point, but I don't know," adds Dennis Bowyer, Twin Falls Parks and Recreation Department.

The cost per vehicle is $3 or you can get a season pass for 25. A coupon book is available at the parks and recreation office and that's good for years to come, running $30 for 20 tickets.

All money goes back into the park.
