Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) Senior citizens may not move as fast as they used to, but they can "still" defend themselves.
Some seniors wonder what they can do to protect themselves. Paying attention to what's happening around you is important. But you don't have to be an athlete to stop an attacker.
Brian Higgins with Success Martial Arts says, "Knowing how to cause the right sort of pain, and then get away. You don't have to win, you just have to hurt them enough to get them to let go so you can get out of it."
Higgins recommends holding your cane out in front of you by the shaft, instead of the handle. Then a hard enough poke at your attacker's throat should get them to stop.
