Snake River Elks Honor Area Veterans

By KMVT Staff

Jerome, Idaho (KMVT-TV) Veterans Day is Sunday, but already, organizations around the valley are holding events.

The Snake River Elks hosted their annual Veterans and Military Appreciation Lunch. The Elks say they're the largest supporter of veterans nationwide and last year they donated more than 40 million dollars to the nation's veterans.

Lyle Moore adds, "we were the first ones to have a veteran's hospital after World War I. There was no hospitals for these vets that needed long term care. So we started the first one in boston and the government decided that they thought it was a pretty good idea so then we donated a hospital to them and from that there are veterans hospitals all across the country."

The Elks have observed Veterans Day since the 1930's...either by providing lunch, dinner or other type of activities.
