SAWTOOTH NATIONAL FOREST, ID (KMVT-TV) Due to weather conditions campgrounds on the Sawtooth’s may not be open over the upcoming memorial day weekend. The lingering snowpack is causing a number of campgrounds, trails, and roads to be closed. In some cases, campgrounds will be open but visitors will need to bring their own drinking water. Among the most popular campgrounds in the South Hills which will not be open for the memorial day weekend are porcupine springs, Diamondfield Jack, Pettit, and upper and lower Penstemon. In the Albion area all developed campgrounds and trailheads are closed due to large snowdrifts. Also, the road to Lake Cleveland and the top of mount Harrison is not open beyond the Pomerelle ski area. Some campgrounds in the Sawtooth National Recreation area such as Redfish and Alturas Lakes may be open by this weekend depending on weather conditions however others will remain closed.
