Fairfield, Idaho (KMVT-TV) After Bruce Willis gifted Solider Mountain to a local non–profit, the ski area is set to open its first season and the corporation has already made some key renovations.

The snow cat is up and running, one of soldier mountain newest additions.

"This year we’ve upgraded to the Piston Bully Snow Cat and we’re real happy to have them. I think it will improve our grooming situation," adds Don Schiermeier, Soldier Mountain Ski Area, Inc.

Don's son Russell, a board member and volunteer says, "they're pretty new and upgraded and hopefully we'll have some real decent corduroy for everything and keep the mountain nice, fresh and clean."

Nearly every building has seen a facelift ...plus renovations to the lodge.

"We got some minor construction inside to help the flow of the food services; we've also been working on the rental shop, to get the flow of that cleaned up some," adds Russ.

Casey's is one of those businesses here in Fairfield that could potentially benefit from the upcoming ski season.

Kevin Wear, Owner of Casey's Depot says, "looking forward to some new beginnings, possibly some moving forward and getting things done on the ski area, hopefully drawing some more people here for business."

The non–profit looks to attract every level of skier from the beginners on the brand new "Magic Carpet"..

"It's a conveyor belt, we got rid of the rope tow, it used to be a handle tow to help everybody learn how to ski and you don't get beat up all day long, instead you can just fall down."

...To the experts.

"Up on top, there's 8–9 ft. Of snow where the cat skiing it at and that's world–class skiing phenomenal snow, with an amazing experience."

World class skiing with a local touch.

Solider Mountain opens next Wednesday, December 26th. For children, day passes cost 19–dollars and it's 35 for adults.
