Burley, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) Southern Idaho Regional Solid Waste District recently received the highest honor a facility like theirs could.

The Solid Waste Association of America has awarded the Southern Idaho Regional Solid Waste District with the Swana Silver Excellence Award.

The silver award is the highest honor that an organization like the district can receive.

The district received the award for its Milner Butte Landfill, a facility that features a progressive design and implements operational practices to minimize rural waste disposal impacts.

"The bronze award went to Orange County Solid Waste and Recycling. And to just give a comparison, we have a 7 and a half million dollar budget... Orange County has a 29 million dollar budget. We’re taking in about 700 tons per day... and they're taking in 6,000 tons a day. So to be recognized nationally, it's a big thing," explains Josh Bartlome, Executive Director of SISW.

The district knows that a recognition like the silver award is a big accomplishment.

But they know and feel their product can continue to improve, and they look forward to being the model example for other solid waste districts across the country.
