Special Olympians Remember Group's Founder
Burley, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) A dozen Special Olympics participants hit the links at Ponderosa Golf Course in Burley today.
They were playing to celebrate the life of Special Olympics' founder, Eunice Kennedy Shriver. Shriver was the younger sister of JFK, and the mother of Maria Shriver Schwarzenegger. She passed away four years ago at age 88.
Terry Kinkead, Program Director for the Burley Special Olympics, says, "We have some main sports, which includes a huge winter program, one of the largest in the state. We have golf, bowling, and bocce ball."
About 50 people helped out with today's golf scramble, including Burley High School cheerleaders and the golf team. The first Special Olympics games were held in Chicago 45 years ago.
