Staying Informed About Winter Weather

Tools

By Brandon Redmond

Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV) An important part of staying safe during winter storms is being informed. The national weather service issues watches, warnings and advisories during the winter season.

"The National Weather is basically the warning authority for the United States on all types of weather. And we do like to partner with our different
agencies, whether it is Emergency Coordinators, our Media and even folks like the Department of Transportation or our local police," said Vernon Preston with the National Weather Service.

While the national weather service issues the warnings, the media is responsible for getting the word out to the public.

"Even though we issue winter warnings, it's really that partnership with our local TV and radio stations to spread that word to the community so folks can take action when a warning is issued," said Preston.

Here at KMVT we offer several ways you can stay informed about winter weather.

"You can find it on our app; you can also go to Facebook if you're socially inclined on social networking. But we've also got a new blog on our KMVT.com website to get weather information that kind of goes beyond what we talk about on air. Kind of gives us an opportunity to dive more into the weather and whys verses just telling you what's going to happen,” said KMVT Meteorologist Brian Neudorff.

Keeping updated on the weather will help keep you safe and ahead of the storm!
