TWIN FALLS, ID (KMVT News) - Idaho is known for a lot of things, potatoes, the great out doors and much more.

Recently it’s also been recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy for it spent recent stimulus money.

At the South Central Community Action Partnership, they've put federal stimulus money to good work.

They’ve been taking low income homes and turning them into energy efficient domain's for Idaho families for more than 30 years.

Idaho was recently awarded by the U.S. Department of Energy for how it's spending stimulus funds.

"Idaho was recognized as one of the top 12 producing states and actually was the highest producing state per capita nationally and we received an award a few weeks ago,” said Ken Robinette, Executive Director, S.C.C.A.

This is just one of the many homes that South Central crew's are working on right now.
"Insulating the walls the attic, replacing doors and windows, insulating floors, insulating the pipes. We're weatherizing,” said Beau Johnson.

"Typically what we have done is weatherize about 160 to 170 homes a year,” said Robinette.

Last year, the state of Idaho received $30 million in federal stimulus money to spend on weatherization projects.

"Through this stimulus package we have ramped up our production by hiring 24 employees to add to South Central's Current Staff and we are doing 350 homes a year,” said Johnson.

It helped create a job for Beau Johnson who expects to be finished with this home by the end of the week and move on to the next.

"There's no stopping, there's not stopping what so ever, it’s just an ongoing process that keeps us busy,” said Johnson.
