Stokes Market: Big Changes Coming To Burley

By Joey Martin

Burley, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) The Albertsons in Burley is closing its doors in early next month.

There are 50 employees that work there right now.

So, does that mean those employees are left without jobs?

Joey martin for Idaho’s First News explains.

With Albertsons closing its doors, many employees are worried about their future.

And hopefully, that's where Stokes Fresh Food Market comes in.

Albertsons, which owns and operates 32 other stores in the state of Idaho, has sold its burley location to Stokes Fresh Food Market.

Dennis McCoy, Albertsons' Communications and Public Affairs Manager released a statement on the closure.

"Due to business reasons, a decision was made to sell this location (Burley) to Stokes Market."
“Selling a Store is never an easy decision but we feel that we have made the right choice for the local associates, the burley community and our company."
Said McCoy.

Stokes Market has been a long time member of the Mini–Cassia area.

First opening its doors back in the late 1960's.

But with Albertsons closing, what about the roughly 50 employees that work at the Burley Albertsons location?

"During the process our old location will remain open and the new location will be open. At this new location, they have their 50 some–odd employees... we'll as well need 50 employees to run that location. Once were done with the remodel were planning on ending around somewhere between 80 and 100 employees as we combine the two locations."
Said Steve Stokes, Owner of Burley Stokes Market.

For local residents the change is welcomed with mixed emotions.

"Well... it's kind of bitter sweet. I feel that both stores are great Idaho stores and we'll miss Albertsons greatly but Stokes is a great place."
Said Burely Resident, Lyndsy Hollingsworth.

"We're excited about it. The kids love to donuts here; we come for those a lot. And we never really went to Albertsons so we're excited to see Stokes expand."
Said Burley Resident, Becca Kearl.

The new stokes location will pull double duty...

It will be half market... Half True Value Hardware Store.

Both locations will remain open until the remolding process is complete.

Once that is done, the main Stokes location on Overland will be closed and then will be combined with the new location.

Stokes Market will take over the Albertsons location on February 6th.

The company expects construction to last about 120 days... And finishing up in late June or early July.
