Students At Wendell High School On High Alert
Wendell, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) Students and staff are on high alert at Wendell High School.
Early this week a suspicious note was found in a student restroom.
This all comes after last Friday’s shooting at a Colorado High School.
"It's kind of terrifying and kind of scary at the same time. You never know if it's a hoax and if it's real,” said Grace Silva, concerned parent.
Grace Silva is a concerned parent, her son attends Wendell High School, and when she found out a suspicious note was discovered on campus...she pulled her son out of school.
"I got a phone call from a parent concerned they had found a note at school stating their was going to be some sort of an event prior to the Christmas break,” said Silva.
School district superintendent Greg Lowe says, a note was found that caused concern.
The district immediately called law enforcement.
"It was a suspicious note that was somewhat threatening. I can't say what it says because its under investigation. There was no individual that was threatened in any way or administrator or teacher. We want to take this seriously and that students are safe,” said Lowe.
Parents received a letter from the district. It states the district is doing everything, they can to keep the students safe, and that they are conducting crisis prevention protocols.
"We sent a letter home to the parents describing the situation and what actions were taken,” said Lowe.
The Wendell Police Department and Gooding County Sheriff's Office is assisting with increased security.
"We are at a different kind of time right now. You can't do that. It causes extreme concern not just for adults but also for your peers and parents and it's against the law,” said Lowe.
For parents like Silva it's about her son's safety.
"I think Wendell High School and the school district handled everything very well and kept parents very informed about what was going on,” said Silva.
The Wendell Police Department tells us they are currently investigating the note.
