Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV) In the pool, at the lake, or even in your bathroom, water can be dangerous to your kids if you don't take the right precautions.
Drowning can happen anytime of year, but parents need to be more vigilant during warmer months, when the number of drownings increases.
"Being by yourself can be the worst thing you can do when it comes to swimming at pools, lakes, and different bodies of water” said John Pauley, Aquatics Director YMCA.
The biggest reasons drowning occurs is because of the lack of supervision.
As of 2008 Idaho has had the 4th highest percentage of drowning throughout the nation.
"Every year 300 children drown in pools and open water under the age of five” said Page Geske, Manger at Safe Kids Magic Valley.
1,000 children are injured or hospitalized due to a water injury each year.
"If you are the parent or you take a bunch of kids to the pool but if you're the person responsible watching those children that you're not texting, not on the phone, not checking your facebook, not posting to facebook” said Page Geske, Manger at Safe Kids Magic Valley.
Keeping your children safe in and near water can prevent a possible drowning.
