Sun Valley Audit Leads To Policy Changes
Sun Valley, Idaho (KMVT-TV) Sun Valley mayor DeWayne Briscoe is still reviewing a new manual for city employees. It was one of many changes following an audit that found numerous irregularities in the city's business practices.
"We have a revision of the employee manual, previously in effect with the city. And clarifications were made so there would be less possibility of misinterpreting the policy. But the important aspect that we found in the audit was that the city policies were not followed," stated Mayor Briscoe.
Part of the new revised employee manual includes stricter rules for Sun Valley employees taking vacation time.
"I can tell you that we now have control over vacations and when people report to the city. When I first took office, I was surprised that people were just coming in to my office and informing me that they were going to be gone for a week or gone for two weeks and I asked them where are you forms, where is your permission, well that wasn't essentially done in the past," said Sun Valley Mayor DeWayne Briscoe.
Not only was the audit necessary, but the Sun Valley Mayor feels that the audit will help the city move forward in a positive direction.
"What was learned over and above accounting practices, that would help the city conduct its businesses into the future, well into the future and be more efficient and meet the standards of the policies of the city," said the Sun Valley Mayor.
Results of the forensic audit continue to be released. Documents recently obtained show that the city paid for at least fifty one thousand dollars worth of unexplained employee time off. The city also paid a salary to at least one city employee that was nineteen percent higher than permitted according to the city policy.
