Sun Valley Resort Owner Dies

Sun Valley, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) The owner of the Sun Valley Resort has died at 86.

Billionaire Robert Earl Holding had a business empire that included ownership of Sinclair Oil, the Sun Valley Resort and Snowbasin Resort in Utah.

Holding's net worth was $3.2 billion, making him the 423rd wealthiest person in the world, according to Forbes.

In 1952, he became manager of the Little America Truck Stop near Green River, Wyoming. He acquired the mobil refinery in Casper, Wyoming, in 1968 and Sinclair Oil in 1976.

He later purchased the Sun Valley Resort in Idaho and Snowbasin Resort in Utah, and sprawling ranches in Wyoming and Montana.

Holding was survived by his wife Carol of 64 years and their three children. He died on Friday.
