Support Groups Provide Hope For The Holidays And Beyond

Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV) All of us could use some help dealing with our hurts, habits and hang-ups. That's the whole purpose behind the support groups featured in "Recovery for Life" at the Twin Falls Reformed Church on Monday nights.

Jubilee House graduate Desiree Green says, “I guess it's the openness. There's kind-hearted people here. They help me, and there's people I can also help. The doors are always open. I like that.

A free meal is served every Monday night at 6:00 p.m., with the support groups following from 7:00 to 8:15 p.m. Childcare is available, and there are groups to help people deal with everything from divorce and grief to co-dependency and recovering from drug or alcohol abuse.

There are also classes teaching parenting skills and how to effectively deal with your finances, and helping parents raise their special needs children.

Support group facilitator Zane Austin says, “At that point I was just reinforcing my need for recovery. As time went on, they asked me to join the leadership here and facilitate a drug/alcohol recovery group that I was attending.”

Austin says if you've walked down a certain road before, you can help other people see where the potholes and pitfalls are in that road. Between 60 and 100 people attend the Monday night "Recovery for Life" support groups at the Twin Falls Reformed Church.

Support group member Bob Patterson says, “It's not only in what you can get from people, but it's also in what you can give. I've been able to give as well as receive. It's just awesome to be able to do such a thing.”

That thing is helping some of the people who need it most find "hope for the holidays" and beyond.
