Filer, Idaho ( KMVT-TV /KTWT-TV ) It was team sorting time for cowboys and cowgirls out at the Twin Falls County Fair this Monday.
Team sorting originated from the feedlots years ago... Ranchers and herdsmen would challenge each other in their stock sorting skills.
Since then it has turned into an annual competition at fairs across the county.
This Monday it was the local guys who took turns sorting cows over in the Zebarth Arena.
“It consists of two men on two horses. We’ve got 10 head of cattle, they’re numbers zero through nine… whichever number the judge calls out you have to start with that number cow then you go in ascending order. The fastest time on 10 head of the total number of cattle will win the event.”
Said Scott Short from the Magic Valley Team Sorting Association
Around 90 teams entered this year's competition.
Winners walked away with a cash prize but that's not the only prize they walked away with.
Over the next year, the winners will be able to hold their title over their friend's heads as the best sorting team in Twin Falls County.
