'Tell It To Me Straight' Dinner Teaching Parents

By Alexa Tieu

Burley, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) A dinner was held Tuesday evening to bring teens and parents together to discuss sex.

Students at the 'Tell It To Me Straight' event want to teach parents how to talk to their children.

Many parents find it difficult to discuss intercourse with their teens.

The absence of this can lead to early and unprotected sex... Which can result in teen pregnancy.

"The goal of this dinner is that the parents will leave with some tips of ways they can start the conversation about what's going on in our community, what's happening with their kids, what their own values and ideas about sex are and be able to have more open conversations with their kids," explains Adria Masoner, the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Program Coordinator, South Central Public Health District.

The South Central Public Health District hopes to host this each year.
