Temporary Jobs On The Rise

Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) The job market continues to improve but not in the areas most people want to see. Hiring is always important for the economy. But the rise in temporary and contract work shows that many employers aren't willing to hire for the long run.

The number of temporary jobs has jumped more than 50 percent. This, since the recession ended four years ago to nearly 2.7 million. That's the most on record since 1990.

"You know there's probably eight staffing companies here in the Twin Falls area so you know there's a lot of temporary employees and a lot of temporary jobs. So I would say definitely in the past several years the number of temps in this area has definitely increased," said Paul Miller, branch manager at SOS Staffing.

Many companies are hiring more temporary positions due to uncertainties with the economy. Temporary and contract employees typically receive lower pay, few benefits and little to no job security.
