Burley, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV )
Lt. Kevin Horak, has been in law enforcement for 15 years starting off a patrol officer and working his way up to the investigation division.
He works actively with the drug task force team for the Mini Cassia region.
Although drugs are seen on a regular basis in the Magic Valley, Burley is thought to be a hub for larger cities.
"Burley is kind of in between everywhere. It's in between Idaho Falls and Boise and Salt Lake. Portalnd and Denver and it seems like the Mini Casssia area ends up being a significant hub for large quantities of drug trafficking."
Confiscating and keeping the streets of the eastern Magic Valley clean do become dangerous.
"There are several dangers involved in the enforcement of drug activity. Mostly because folks that are engaged in dealing and using drugs a lot of the time are not in the right state of mind and do things that they would normally otherwise do."
Horak says the most confiscated drug is marijuana and methamphetamines.
"It's important that everyone understand everyone involved in the drug task force and the two sheriff departments really do care and really do need the help of the community as a whole to collect all the information about illegal activity and everyone of us can feel good about doing the right thing and making a difference."
Horak feels like he makes a difference in the community when he is able to help keep drugs off the streets.
"So it's nice to know that on occasion you get to go out and make a difference in individual people, individual lives, and individual families to curtail drug abuse, drug activity and the crime."
