The Ins And Outs Of Dairy Showmanship
Filer, Idaho (KMVT-TV) One thing you can count on every year at the fair are farm kids showing their animals. 4-H and FFA kids took turns parading their animals in front of the judges, who depended on years of experience to rate the animals on display.
Anybody who's done this before can tell you it's not as easy as it looks. Brittney Stirling, FFA Grand Champion winnder, says, "The judges were looking for someone who actually works with their heifer, cooperating well with them, making sure that the heifer was well-fit, and just making sure what they needed to know to take care of their heifer." This event was the Dairy Showmanship competition. The kids who participated needed to have their animals stop on command in a standard pose so the judges could examine these dairy cattle for the event. Aug. 30, 2012. Comments ( |
