The US Constitution Meets Local Government
Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV) The manager for the City of Twin Falls talked about how the US Constitution affects local government. He said the theme of personal rights started with the Magna Carta, more than 500 years before the Constitution was written.
He said America's founding fathers also kept it in mind while writing the Declaration of Independence.
Travis Rothweiler, City Manager for Twin Falls, says, "The Bill of Rights was to guarantee personal freedoms, but limit government power, and to insure that judicial and other proceedings are reserved for some powers, and also reserve some powers for the state and the public."
Rothweiler pointed out that the Constitution's historical background laid a solid foundation for the freedoms that all of us enjoy today.
