Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) Saturday marked a perfect occasion for spring cleaning and one local organization helped to alleviate some of the clutter.
Southern Idaho Solid Waste took in passenger and pickup tires for Free Disposal Day.
The annual event features all of the Southern Idaho Solid Waste facilities.
Officials at the Twin Falls location estimated they already collected about five tons as of the afternoon.
"It's good we get a lot of people who don't get a chance to come in or don't normally come in and on top of that, it's also nice that they're bringing the tires in instead of leaving them in their yards or throwing them in the ditch or leaving them on the side of road or taking them to the desert," adds James Burrows, Twin Falls Transfer Station.
The Tire Amnesty Day also serves the purpose of helping to control the mosquito population. Anything that holds stagnant water is considered breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
One of the leading causes here locally includes old worn out tires.
