Top Local Stories of 2012

Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV) - As 2012 comes to a close, we're sharing the top stories from the year.

While the biggest stories may have come and gone, they aren't forgotten.

Here are the stories during the past calendar year that captured your attention.

Starting off the list at number twelve, the return of the Blue Angels during "Air Magic Valley."

Onto eleven, development continues, a brand new movie theater opens and a new shopping center is under construction.

Ten, "I think it's a win, win for businesses and for consumers."

Parking meters were removed from downtown Twin Falls.

Moving on, it's the final year for the South Hills Christmas lights, after 22 years.

At number eight, bittersweet news for a Canadian family.
The remains of a man who went missing last year were found.

Also receiving closure the family of a Rupert woman who went missing in 1988 as her remains were found in the city of rocks.

Seven, a murder in Cassia County. The body of Russ Taft was found in the crawl space at the alpine garden inn.

Onto six, "The viewers are going to see a crystal clear picture."

KMVT goes HD and acquires a FOX affiliate.

Five, animal abuse allegations at a Hansen Dairy made headlines across the nation.

Number four, redistricting the Gem State.

Three, the grand opening for Chobani.

"The impact that you see here the four–hundred plus million dollars plant the three–hundred employees that's just the beginning."
Number two, a Declo Elementary School teacher's form of punishment for students who didn't reach reading goals caused outrage for parents.

And the biggest story of 2012, a Twin Falls man was killed following a stabbing at Canyon Crest.

Officers arrested 21–year old Cayde Lish and charged him with voluntary manslaughter.

The horrific massacre of 26 children and staff at a Connecticut Elementary School was the top national news story of 2012.

It narrowly edged out the U.S. Election, according to the Associated Press' Annual Poll of U.S. Editors and News Directors.
