Jerome, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) - Jerome and Twin Falls County sheriff deputies continue their search for a missing hiker/fisherman. On Sunday evening, authorities say Ivan Findley, 49 of Hansen and Troy Baynes, 46 of Murtaugh were reported by family members to be stranded in the bottom of the Snake River Canyon just west of the Hansen Bridge.

The men had hiked down into the canyon to fish, but were physically unable to climb back out of the canyon due to the steepness.
Findley made cell phone contact with family members in the late afternoon and stated they were unable or unwilling to climb out. He told them they were going to hike and/or float west downstream to find a way out of the canyon. Late afternoon they decided to swim across the river to the south side, one mile west of the Hansen Bridge, where they thought they could find a way out of the canyon. Findley turned back to the north bank after encountering swift current, but Baynes was pulled under by the current, and not seen again.
This Tuesday, Sheriff Doug McFall said he will be flying over the area by helicopter and that Twin Falls deputies will be in the water with a boat searching for the missing person.
Area visitors to the area are asked to report any unusual sightings to local law enforcement or by calling 324-1911.
