Twin Falls Chamber Checks In With State Lawmakers

Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) The Twin Falls Area Chamber of Commerce's 'Public Policy Committee' is keeping an eye on what's happening at the Statehouse in Boise.

The group of roughly 20 attendees meets early Friday mornings for a conference call with lawmakers from Magic Valley.
Now that the freshmen are up to speed, this week there's a bill for personal property tax, as well as a printed bill related to the proposed health insurance exchange.

Shawn Barigar, President and CEO of the Twin Falls Area Chamber, says, "Our committee will review those, determine whether the chamber should be taking a position on those, and make a recommendation to the board. Then the board will take an active role in those specific pieces of legislation."

The chamber closely follows laws that could have an effect on local businesses. Some of the lawmakers on the phone from Boise include Representatives Steve Hartgen and Lance Clow, and Senator Jim Patrick.
