Filer, Idaho (KMVT) - The Twin Falls County Fair generates a pretty good chunk of money every year; however, it boils down to a lot more than just what you spend getting in the gate, at the food booths, and at the events in the arena.
It's pretty easy to get dizzy at the fairgrounds this time of year; but lots of people would like to ride out the ups and downs of the economy, and keep their feet on the ground.
That's where the Twin Falls County Fair brings home the bacon.
According to Shawn Barigar, President and CEO Twin Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, “There are about 100 thousand or so people that go through the fair each year. And 40 percent of those are actually from outside Twin Falls County. So we're drawing a good number of people from throughout the Magic Valley, and even other parts of the state, and even into Northern Nevada.”
Barigar says many out-of-towners will spend money either on motels or at an RV campground, not to mention filling up at one of the food booths here at the fair.
“The fair itself has probably a million and a half dollar impact in the six days, just in dealing with the stuff that's happening on the fairgrounds. But certainly as we're seeing people come to the community to enjoy the event, they're spending additional dollars and supporting the community,” Barigar said.
He says the businesses that take the time to have a display at the fair are able to make contact with many of the 100 thousand people that come every year.
He also says the fair is an opportunity to promote our local heritage, along with inviting people to spend their time and money here.
Barigar says, “We really tout it as an old–fashioned fair. It still focuses on agriculture, a lot of the great activities for 4–H and those kinds of things that you don't necessarily see at other fairs in the state.”
