Twin Falls Police Taking Prescription Drugs Off Streets
Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) Approximately 6.8 million Americans abuse prescription drugs.
Soaring rates for this type of abuse are the key reason for National Prescription Drug Take–Back Day. The free and anonymous service was available at thousands of locations across the country Saturday.
And our very own Twin Falls Police Department participated once again with the drop–off in the KMVT parking lot.
Studies reveal the most abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including those lifted from home medicine cabinets.
"They'll flush them down the toilet...which gets back into the streams or sometimes they'll leave them around the house because they don't know what to do with them and kids can get into it and that obviously can be very dangerous," explains Tracy Bramwell, Twin Falls Police Department.
The DEA says that people nationwide turned in nearly 2.8 million pounds of prescriptions. Meanwhile, the Twin Falls Police Department has a drug drop–off box in its lobby all year–round.
