UPDATE INFORMATION: Two Semi Trucks Collide Near Richfield
UPDATE INFORMATION 4:35 PM - The Idaho State Police say one person has died from his injuries following the accident. Ismail Mohammed, 57, of Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada was driving north in a 2012 Kenworth tractor pulling a trailer hauling vegetables.
Mark Mandis, 43 of Jerome, was southbound in a 2005 Kenworth tractor hauling two hay trailers. Authorities say the Mandis vehicle crossed the center line and into the northbound lane of travel, colliding with Mohammed's vehicle.
Both drivers were transported for medical treatment. Mohammed succumbed to his injures before arriving at the hospital.
The road has been officially closed by the Idaho Transportation Department. It remains closed at this time.
Richfield, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) - Two Semi Trucks have collided between Oneida Street and 3rd Street in Richfield. The Idaho State Police say that Highway 93/26 at Milepost 182 is completely blocked between Richfield and Carey. There are unconfirmed reports of injuries. One person’s injuries appear to be serious with Air St. Luke's being dispatched. The accident happened just after 8:30 am this Wednesday morning. Nathan Jerke with the Idaho Transportation Department said northbound traffic is being diverted on the north side of Richfield to Main street then on north to Cassia Street and then back onto the highway. Road crews say the road is slushy and with the rain falling is turning very slick. Motorists are asked to avoid the area if at all possible. If travels take you in the area, you should expect delays.
