UPDATE: First Day Of Cayde Lish's Trial
Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) The voluntary manslaughter trial for Cayde Lish of Twin Falls began today. Lish is charged with stabbing Jerimiah Piaz last October.
Community members gathered Tuesday in a Twin Falls County courtroom to hear about an event that changed many lives. That was the stabbing death of Jerimiah D. Piaz last October. Piaz was stabbed outside the Canyon Crest Event Center after an altercation with 21 year old Cayde Lish.
Defense Attorney Keith Roark says, "Piaz said if you guys don't let me up, thinking now there was several of them, I'm gonna stab somebody. And still they didn't let him up."
Piaz later died from his injuries at the hospital. The Twin Falls County Prosecutor's office charged Lish with voluntary manslaughter.
Lish's trial started with Ada County Prosecutor George Gunn questioning witnesses involved in the case. That included the Twin Falls Police officer, the ambulance attendant, and the emergency room doctor on duty early that morning. Other witnesses are expected to be questioned when the trial reopens on Wednesday.
Cayde Lish's trial is expected to continue through the rest of the week. We'll have a reporter in the courtroom again tomorrow.
