Jerome, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) - A airplane used for applying chemicals to farmland has crashed near the freeway in Jerome county. The crash occurred near the frontage road in the area of the 190 milemarker of I-84. The incident occurred in a bean field around 3pm this Monday.

Pilot Michael Jurak walked away uninjured. The airplane was owned by the Red Barron Ag Service of Hazelton. Officials on the scene say it appears the plane was overloaded which may have attributed to the crash. The plane is being considered a total loss.

The pilot reported he had 10 gallons of Colbalt insecticide mixed with 700-800 gallons of liquid fertilizer. The National Transportation Safety Bureau will conduct an investigation, officials say. While it’s believed that no chemicals spilled, a hazmat crew has been dispatched as a precaution.

The Jerome Rural fire department along with several law enforcement agencies responded to the scene.
