Upgrades Made To Twin Falls Wastewater Treatment Plant
Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV/KTWT-TV) How often do you get to visit the city's wastewater treatment plant?
CH2M Hill project manager Shawn Moffitt showed us the ultraviolet light disinfection they use to treat the wastewater before it goes out to the river.
Back in 1996, they city switched from chlorine disinfection to uv light disinfection and they just recently completed an upgrade this past summer.
"What they did with this new change is they went to a lot more efficient, ultraviolet light system that uses a lot less energy and has a lot longer life on the bulbs than the old system did," adds Moffitt.
Moffitt says with the old system, they spent $80,000 a year just in lamp replacements alone. Now the new lamps last 15,000 hours, compared to 4,000.
He anticipates a $70,000 reduction in yearly electrical costs.
