UPDATED: Train Crash Turned Fatal

UPDATE ; 8:30 PM - 64 year old Jess Linch of Jerome, was southbound in a 2007 Cadillac Escalade.
Linch failed to yield at the train crossing and was struck on the driver's side by a westbound train.
The vehicle was pushed 400 yards along the railroad track.
Linch was wearing his seatbelt and died at the scene.

UPDATE 3:05 PM - The train pushed the SUV Type vehicle several hundred yards before being able to come to a complete stop. It was westbound on the tracks and struck the vehicle on the drivers side.

Jerome County, Idaho (KMVT-TV) A train has struck a vehicle at milepost 55.5 on Highway 93 near 300 South in Jerome County. The accident happened around 2:15 p.m. According to a reporter on scene, there is at least one fatality.

Currently, traffic going in both directions is blocked at this time. Northbound traffic is being diverted to 400 South, Southbound traffic is being diverted on to 300 South.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area.
