Valley Brings Back Music Program

Hazelton, Idaho (KMVT-TV) Many schools across the nation have cut the arts all together. But Valley is re–building their music program.
Last year the school brought back band and now the elementary program is taking off.

Cassie Vandersloot showered the students with her musical talents. The flute specialist from Pocatello made a special trip to Valley Elementary School.

The children asked her questions as she provided insight into her passion.

Vandersloot is a colleague of Robbie Hanchey's. Hanchey teaches music to all of the elementary grades as well as band at the secondary level.

"I want kids to basically fall in love with music as I did," adds Hanchey.

While other school districts in the state might offer music education for 30 minutes every other week. At Valley, students will receive music education every week for an hour.

"It's been a really amazing journey."

The re–introduction of music has stretched beyond the walls of the music building.

"We're hearing people saying thank you so much for bringing music back."

Another element to a school that only featured athletics over the last few years.

"They see this community loves music and they're excited to see what's going to happen."
