Wayne Skeem Celebrates 90 Years With Big Bash At CSI Saturday
Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) Local band legend Wayne Skeem celebrated his 90th birthday Saturday much like he celebrated everything, big and with style.
Wayne's family moved to the Magic Valley when he was a child to farm, but eventually he found a different path.
Thankfully, his father recognized Wayne's skills were in other areas and encouraged him to pursue them.
He became a band teacher in Buhl and also organized his own band, Wayne Skeem and his Orchestra 'Skeemers.'
They performed extensively around the region for quite some time.
Today's celebration had been in the works for several years and took place at the CSI Fine Arts Center.
It included some big band dancing to a recording of some of Wayne's music from many years ago.
The performers included several of Wayne's own grandchildren.
As of a year ago at his last birthday, Wayne had around 50 children, grand and great grandchildren.
What a difference a year makes.
This year it had grown to approximately 85.
Wayne says, "I have a wonderful family, you know how that goes. And its grown, when you get to be 90 you'll find you have a lot of relatives, way down younger and younger. It works that way, works pretty nice."
Wayne insists that all of the famous people he played with over the years actually played 'for' him instead.
He hasn't lost his sense of humor and recommends imagination as one of the keys to life and success.
Happy 90th birthday, Wayne Skeem.
