Weight Loss Challenge Participants Becoming Big "Losers"

Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) Some might say the Magic Valley Weight Loss Challenge is seeing its best year so far.

After last month's weigh–in, the 537 participants have lost more than 3,300 pounds.

This means after only two months, they've already achieved a third of the 10,000 pound weight loss goal.

The top five contestants each weighed more than 300 pounds when the contest began January 5th.

Overall, organizers couldn't be more pleased with the efforts so far.

"We're very enthused and happy and excited for the whole six months because we know we can make the Magic Valley a healthier community," says Donna Cleland, Marketing Director, Twin Falls YMCA.

Jenny Wilcox, Magic Valley Weight Loss Challenge Organizer adds, "this group is more enthusiastic, more dedicated that any of the previous years we've seen. I think a lot of that is because we're kept them more engaged. They have something nearly every week they can attend."

The first place winner will win $10,000, second place earns $4,000 and the third place winner takes home $2,000.

The contest ends June 22nd at Kurt's Pharmacy.
