Welcome Home Celebration for Olympic Gold Medalist
Hailey, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV )
It's been quite the ride for snowboarder Kaitlyn Farrington.
From Sochi to the "Tonight Show" and now back home, where Sun Valley natives eagerly awaited her arrival.
Says Farrington, "so much excitement. This is the first time I've cried since I've had it so it's just crazy, it's just an awesome feeling to be back in Sun Valley."
Jason Williams, a student at a local high school adds, "I'm missing one class but I don't care. I made a poster and everything; we're just supporting someone from a community that's doing such a great thing."
Farrington notes, “Just everyone being here and supporting me through my journey and it’s just awesome to see everyone."
Despite waking up at 4:30 ET, Kaitlyn is ready for the parade through Hailey and Bellevue that awaits.
She notes, "I'm kind of going on a long day but I slept on the plane and I'm ready for it."
Hundreds lining the streets with signs and shouting words of encouragement to the 24 year old.
Kristy Heitzman, of the Hailey Chamber of Commerce, "Everyone is talking about the parade and her coming to town and just the whole year, she's booked whether she's knows it or not. We're all excited and couldn't be more proud."
Says Farrington, "I feel it's been crazy. My parents have said they can't walk around without people stopping them congratulating them so it's just amazing to bring everyone together and just be a part of a small community."
Up next, the welcome home celebration will continue on Saturday. At 2:30, festivities begin at Warm Springs Lodge with live music, food, and beverage specials.
Following that, an official ceremony at 4 p.m. to honor Kaitlyn on Warm Springs Deck, followed by a street party on Picabo Street.
