Wells Fargo Economist On Idaho Agriculture

By Brittany Cooper

Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) The chief agricultural economist for a major bank spoke to area leaders Wednesday.

Members of the agricultural and business community listened to Dr. Michael Swanson from Wells Fargo.

Some of his responsibilities include analyzing the impact of energy on agriculture and forecasting for key commodities. He joined Wells Fargo back in 2000.

Swanson says you can't analyze potatoes and dairy in Idaho without looking at national and international markets.

"Idaho has a good pro business attitude and that makes a difference, permitting, just feeling welcomed to expansion is a big deal. There's a lot of states that have high unemployment that still aren't eager to allow people to make an effort to expand," says Dr. Swanson.

He calls Greek Style yogurt a quote huge win for the market, but not enough to make dairy prices change.
