Hailey, Idaho (KMVT-TV) The Wood River Valley animal shelter in Hailey is seeing a decrease in pet overpopulation.

There are still plenty of adoptable dogs and cats in the shelter waiting for homes.

But, with the low population the shelter is starting to reap the rewards of it's programs.

Including no-cost community spay and neuter clinics and paws for hunger pet food bank.

"One of our biggest and most successful programs has been our no-cost communities spay and neuter program. We provide any spay and neuter service to any animal in Blaine County at no-cost and it has been a really rewarding program and has allowed us to remain a no kill shelter and allowed us to have a controlled population and not have us be overrun with pet overpopulation issues” said Dr. Joanna Dixon Executive Director, Wood River Animal Shelter.

The shelter now alters an average of 650 dogs and cats annually.
