Work Continues On Canyon Park West

Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) Work crews are relocating a section of Fillmore Street near Johnny Carino's in Twin Falls. That's in preparation for the new Canyon Park West shopping center.

"If you build it, they will come." Laying the pavement is just the first step for Canyon Park West, which is going up near the Perrine Bridge.

Longtime resident Bill Stonemets "The canyon rim is a great place to live for those that like to have the scenery. The land is very expensive."

A spokeswoman for Neilsen and Company says the first of three phases of this project was completed on May 2nd. The second one should be completed by June 15th. And finally the third and last phase located behind Golden Corral should be completed by the first of July.

Magic Valley resident Ron Fields says, "I think so, you have to have growth if it's healthy. Look at the last six, seven, eight years. People were screaming for money and jobs, and it's nice to see activity."

After negotiations with the stores are finalized and the City of Twin Falls gives its approval, then construction for the rest of the project will begin. But some longtime residents are concerned about the geological safety of the location.

Senior citizen Bill Curry says, "This sounds like an old person talking. But I think this thing is going to crumble off sooner or later. Probably not in my lifetime, maybe not yours, but it's going to happen."
