Working In Hot Temperatures Can Be Dangerous
Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) It was another day of well above average temperatures in Southern Idaho.
Some jobs require people to be outdoors. For construction workers they're dealing with the heat all day, John Martinez a concrete finisher says it’s tough to stay cool.
"We have a cooler of Gatorade to stay hydrated you have to sweat a lot and that's the way the body cools itself. You just sweat and drink a lot of fluids and deal with it."
Working under such hot conditions can be dangerous with longtime exposure.
"We also tell them to pay attention to how they're feeling. If you start to feel dizzy that means you're starting to get some signs of heat exhaustion and if you get to that point you need to take care of yourself. The biggest is hydrate” said Ty Slatler, Road Work Ahead.
Martinez believes his paycheck may be the only thing worth dealing with the sun.
"It's a job and I enjoy doing construction, it's all I have really done," said Martinez.
