Officials Hope To Control Colorado Fire Soon
Colorado Springs, Colorado (CNN) Many families living in central Colorado returned home to find everything they owned devoured by a fast-moving wildfire. Flames from the so-called Waldo Canyon Fire have destroyed about 350 homes.
The blaze has charred more than 17-thousand, 800 acres of land. Jerri Marr, a U-S Forest Service official gave an update on how firefighting efforts are going. "The fire is continuing to burn. You know, we still have places that are really hot. At the same time, we have places that we are increased containment. Our containment now is at 55-percent and we're really pleased with that. We still have some really tough areas that we're working in, some really steep terrain. But, we are having great success. Weather today, should expect some strong and maybe some erratic winds, so that could be a little bit of work for us today." Fire officials estimate it will be another two weeks before they can get the fire fully under control. For now, local news station K-M-G-H reports about three-thousand people still aren't allowed to return to their homes. The fire has killed two people since it started more than a week ago. The cause is under investigation. Comments ( |
