USS Iowa Museum Opens
San Pedro, California (CNN) A floating legacy of the U-S military welcomed its first visitors on board.
The retired U-S-S Iowa is permanently docked at the Port of Los Angeles and has been turned into a museum. During its heyday, the battleship known as "The Big Stick" served in the Pacific Fleet during World War two. It was among the first to enter Tokyo Bay after Japan's surrender and was famous for having a bath tub that was installed just for President Franklin D. Roosevelt. A nonprofit group raised 9-million dollars to move and restore the ship. Comments ( |
