1985 Cold Case Murder Solved
Lewis County, Washington (CNN) Almost three decades after an elderly couple's murder, investigators say they know who did it. 53-year-old Rick Riffe was arrested in Alaska over the weekend for the 1985 robbery and murder of Edward and Wilhelmina Maurin. Riffe and his now deceased brother are accused of forcing the Maurins to withdraw cash from a bank in Lewis County, Washington, then shooting the couple and dumping their bodies in the woods. It's been more than 26 years since the couple was killed, but the victims' son says he knew this day would come. "At their funeral, I laid my hand on their casket and I said, ' I will find out who did this." Detectives say new witness testimony gave them the evidence they needed to arrest Riffe. Riffe is being held in Alaska as prosecutors move to extradite him back to Washington State.
